Rating
This book has basic computer security programmer "reminders". The best part is the reference sections for up to date information: [...] common vulnerabilities and exposures. I suppose we could just go there and not buy this book. But in general, reading of the book and then periodic re-reading, thus refreshing one's programming brain is useful. That is the value of this book - reminders. The explanation of the sin includes a description of real experiences, is at times funny and enjoyable to read. But, there is a lack of actual code (sparse at best) and no CD at all - unfortunately. The "sin" theme is over done and gets annoying. The organization is good and includes Unix, Linux and Mac OS-X which are the platforms I usually deal with. Windows is there, but I have "given up" trying to secure MS Windows (it's futile IMO). Cross platform languages and webs apps are all covered. I deal mostly with crypto and random number generation. There are several chapters that organized my thinking on those subjects. There are 393 pages not as Amazon states 432. Why do they get that wrong so much of the time? . . . To justify the price? Oh well, there goes another $30+ - at least we get a discount.

i have never read a book so easy!!! it makes me wanna read more and more, all chapters are exciting, i really wanna thank the writer for making it more explicit for even network dummies, with that said, everyone is capable of understanding this book and executing what its thought, not necessarily for exam purposes.

Although they admit to not being attourneys this book covers what I suppose is required:Knowing the Law where the internet is in question. It tells of precedure, methods and device of testing for vulnerability. Its a nutshell of getting into the IT security trade.

Rating
As an IT professional, I need to constantly learn new skills, and obtain certifications signifying knowlege of those skills. In todays economy, it's less and less often that I can convince the companies I work for to fund my training, so I've become a master of learning the skills on my own and passing the required tests.
This book is part of my training plan, I also read other books on the subject, and set up a virtual environment to get hands on practice with the many tools the CEH requires knowlege of.
This book seems to be the most organized of the bunch I read, and addresses the test objectives. I'll add to this review after I test.

This is a super book! It nicely rounds out required topics for the latest EC-Council exam! It's also a very nice complement to the Review Guide. I highly recommend this book to all who are embarking down the CEH path and need further insight into the diverse topics that candidates must master.
